Our Membership Selection Process

Our Membership Selection Process ensures that we are selecting the best-qualified men who exemplify the tenets of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The fraternity’s founders chose these tenets and each candidate must exhibit the qualities of the Fraternity’s Four Cardinal Principles. Our fraternity’s motto is “Friendship is essential to the soul” and the selection process is centered on an international uniform system of bringing forward new member with ideals of true friendship. Since the birth of the organization, Omega has and will continue to impact the world in every profession and all walks of life.

Membership Requirements

Just as our Founders selected each other and each member thereafter, we are rigorous in ensuring we are bringing members in the fraternity who already possess the qualities of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. The requirements listed below are training for what responsibility is as an active Omega; its purpose is to help develop your unselfish interest in participation in a program of fellowship and brotherhood.

Membership Requirements for Undergraduate Candidates

  • Be enrolled as a current full-time student in an accredited four year college that is in good standing.
  • Possess a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 (in a 4.0 system, or equivalent in a different system).
  • Have completed at least one year at the college/university where the chapter is chartered, and have earned at least 30 semester credit hours in a standard semester system (or equivalent credit hours in an alternative system).
  • Sign and notarize Acknowledgement and Indemnification Agreement days (Parent/Guardian signature is required for candidates under 21 years of age).
  • Must provide at least one letter of recommendation from a financial member of the community in good standing.
  • Submit the Medical Consent and Release Form from a licensed physician taken within the last ninety (90) days (Parent/Guardian signature is required for candidates under 21 years of age).
  • Complete and submit an application for membership throughout the online portal.
  • Have verifiable school participation in extracurricular activities, community involvement, and campus organizations.

    Membership Requirements for Graduate Candidates

    • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University.
      • If the candidate graduated from a university, which has an active chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., they must wait 48 months after graduation before applying for membership.
      • Any candidate meeting the conditions to be classified as a legacy (father or grandfather who are financial members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.) have this requirement waived.
    • Sign and notarize Form 9A-21 Acknowledgement and Indemnification Agreement days
    • Must provide at least one letter of recommendation from a member of the community in good standing.
    • Submit the Medical Consent and Release Form from a licensed physician taken within the last ninety days.
    • Complete and submit an application for membership throughout the online portal.
    • Must be sponsored by two MSP-Qualified members of the chapter to which he is applying through the submission of a Nomination Form.
    • Must have verifiable community participation and activism, church involvement, and leadership experience.

    Financial Commitment

    Since the fraternity's founding in 1911, the fraternity has grown to offer scholarships, leadership conferences, and an international high school writing essay contest to name a few of our programs. These programs are made possible because excellent Omega Men gave their time, talent, and treasure to the fraternity. Just as the fraternity has been built for you, we expect members to do their part and continue to build the bridge for those to come.

    Chapter, State and District Dues

    The Fraternity has been built for men seeking excellence to attain just that. We expect members to continue these programs and pay it forward to build the bridge for those to come.

     

    In addition to the fees noted above, candidates can expect to be assessed for chapter dues and for district dues. 

     Candidates should discuss these costs with their sponsor and with chapter officers.

    Age Requirement

    Beginning with the 2020-2021 academic school year, all candidates under the age of 21 will need to involve their parent or guardian in the Membership Selection Process and sign off on various documents. For candidates under the age of 21 who have been legally emancipated, please contact the Membership Selection Process (MSP) Chair for the chapter for which you are seeking candidacy.
